Samsung ER-5215M Cash Register Help

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

How to Program the Tax Rate on the Samsung / SAM4s ER-5215M

  1. Turn the mode lock to the “P” position
  2. Enter the tax rate with the Decimal Key so to enter 8.8% tax enter it as 8.80 you must enter two digits after the decimal. If it was 5% you would enter as 5.00
  3. Now enter another 0 if this is a a normal % tax, or enter 2 if it is a VAT tax.
  4. Now enter another 0
  5. So at this point lets say you were programming a tax rate of 8.8% you would have entered so far 8.80000
  6. Now press the Tax Shift 1 button (Tax 1 on most machines)
  7. Press the CASH key to finalize. You are now done, make sure you turn the key to Reg to test.

If you were programming Tax Rate #2 simply press the TAX 2 key in place of the Tax 1 button in step #6

Please keep in mind the above steps set the tax rate or rates. This does not change the taxable status on a group or NLU, PLU. That is another step. If you need that just comment and I’ll post it.

To program the tax rate on a Sharp ER-A320 follow these instructions:

  1. With the MA key turn the mode lock to PGM
  2. Enter 2711
  3. Press . (decimal)
  4. Press the @/For Key
  5. Press 1 (see notes below)
  6. Press @/For key
  7. Enter rate. Example if your rate is 8.8% you would enter 88000 as the register will place the decimal point.
  8. Press the @/For key
  9. Enter the lowest taxable amount. Example if all sales $0.01 and up are taxable you would enter 1 if however the minimum taxable amount is $0.25 then enter 25 in most places it is $0.01 and up.
  10. Press the CA/AT key (Cash Key)
  11. Check the print out to make sure the rate is correct.
  12. Make sure and turn the Mode Lock back to REG.

NOTES in step 5 I wrote to enter the number 1. The number 1 in this case is for tax rate 1, the Sharp ER-A320 is capable of 4 tax rates. So enter the number of the tax rate you wish to program. If you needed to program tax rate 3 then you would enter 3 in step 5. If you have to program multiple tax rates just start over after step 10

Thanks

Cash Register Printers:Thermal vs. Bond Paper

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

OK, there are to many reasons to go into on this topic. But long story short Thermal is the way to go. Unless you have a specific application where you require bond paper, thermal hands down has a lower cost of ownership over the long haul. Yes thermal paper is expensive, but you never need a ribbon, they are fast, easy to change rolls, and almost always have 75 to 100′ more paper on each roll. But the biggest reason is that thermal printers are very trouble free.

Hope that helps

Sharp ER-2386S Tax Rate Programming

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

The Sharp ER-2386S tax programming is pretty simple when you have a simple flat rate. Tax tables are a different story, but I don’t think anyone uses them any longer. The Sharp ER-2386S is capable of two tax rates, and yes many states and cities have several different rates. So here are the steps

  1. Turn the mode lock to PGM
  2. Enter 241
  3. press . (decimal)
  4. press the @
  5. press 1 for tax rate 1 or 2 for tax rate 2
  6. press the @
  7. enter the tax rate as 00.0000 so 8.8% would enter as 88000 or 7% would be 70000 DO NOT PRESS THE DECIMAL KEY, THE PROGRAMMING WILL ADD IT IN THE CORRECT PLACE
  8. Press the @
  9. Enter the lowest taxable amount ( I always use 1) so anything above $0.01 will be taxed if a taxable department. If you area is different enter the local minimum amount.
  10. Press Cash (CA/AT) to finish
  11. Repeat for tax 1 or 2 as needed.
  12. Remember to return the key to the REG mode before trying.

Please post a comment if you are having problems

Please note the above programming does not set the tax rate, or open\preset value of the department key.

I will post the tax rate programming soon.

BTW I think this same program works for the 2385, 2395, 2385S, 2395S, 2386S, 2396S

Can more then two serial devices be connected to the Samsung ER-650

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

The Samsung ER-650/655 has two RS-232 ports. There is not an option to add more ports.

With, an external RS-232 switch you might be able to switch devices. The  port programming would need to be changed everytime you want to use the alternate device. As an example, a scale and scanner could be connected to the machine using both available ports. When you would like to have the machine communicate to a PC, you would switch one of the ports to the PC connection (direct or modem), then change the port programming, and the register could be polled. If this needed to be done on a daily basis it would be quite a headache. At that point I would think about a larger cash register with 3 or more ports.

Samsung ER-650 Memory Clear

Monday, September 18th, 2006

You must clear memory before you use the ER-650 for the first time or after additional memory has been added.

  1. Turn the power switch located on the right side of the register to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the control lock to the SM position.
  3. Press and hold the key position where the CHECK key is located on the default keyboard layout.
  4. Continue to hold the CHECK key while turning the power switch to the ON position. The message: “RAM ALL CLEAR SERV.” displays on the screen.
  5. Press the upper left key of the keyboard, then the lower left key, then the upper right key, and finally press the lower right key.
  6. The display will monitor the memory clear process, which takes about 1 minute. When complete, the printer will print the message: “RAM ALL CLEAR OK !” The SERVICE MODE menu will display.
