How to Program the Tax Rate on the Samsung / SAM4s ER-5215M
- Turn the mode lock to the “P” position
- Enter the tax rate with the Decimal Key so to enter 8.8% tax enter it as 8.80 you must enter two digits after the decimal. If it was 5% you would enter as 5.00
- Now enter another 0 if this is a a normal % tax, or enter 2 if it is a VAT tax.
- Now enter another 0
- So at this point lets say you were programming a tax rate of 8.8% you would have entered so far 8.80000
- Now press the Tax Shift 1 button (Tax 1 on most machines)
- Press the CASH key to finalize. You are now done, make sure you turn the key to Reg to test.
If you were programming Tax Rate #2 simply press the TAX 2 key in place of the Tax 1 button in step #6
Please keep in mind the above steps set the tax rate or rates. This does not change the taxable status on a group or NLU, PLU. That is another step. If you need that just comment and I’ll post it.
Thanks

How do you setup for tax on food and put it in a different group. Can this be done with on button or macro setup.
How do you setup for tax on food and put it in a different group. Can this be done with one button or macro setup.
Yes Please post a quick note about setting up for tax on a group or programed
key on the board. Like to use one key for food with tax included and one key for a product like snacks with no tax included but do not want to use as a plu, can this be done?
The items must be PLU’s linked to groups. So yes you can use one key for tax and one without tax. The set up of tax or no tax for a group is quite easy.
could you point me in the right direction?
i’m looking for the inkey sequence to add an imposed 10%
allgheny county beer/liquor tax, beginning 2008.
this imposed tax (supposedly to fund an ailing public transit system)
is pending litigation and will be collected until it is overturned.
i am trying to add this imposed tax to the beer/liquor group of the
register.
i’m using a SAM4S ER-650 register.
in the event that you can’t help here, thanks for the consideration.
i’ve been using the manual but it doesn’t quite give it to me.
OK pretty easy stuff.
First off you need to set the tax rate
1. Turn the key to Program
2. Press option 2 for the Tax Prog screen
3. Choose rate 1 through 4. If you only have one tax rate use Rate 1
4. Now choose Tax Type. You can choose 0 for Add-On, 1 for Tax Table, 2 for VAT. Most areas if not all in the US use 0 for Add-On check with your taxing district (County City State) if you do not know)
5. After choosing tax type you will see the Tax Rate Screen. Just enter your rate and press cash to accept. Press clear to get back to the program screen
That above sets the rate, it does not make items taxable. To do so do the following:
1. Key to Program
2. Press 0 for PLU programming
3. Press 0 to Add/Modify PLU
4. Enter the PLU # or Press the PLU on the Keyboard, or scan the item
5. You will see an program screen with the name of the PLU, and up to 5 prices.
6. Press page down or enter until you get to Page 2
7. On Page 2 you will see: TAXable BY: 1 2 3 4
N N N N
8. Press enter(cash) until the cursor is under the tax rate you wish to use for that item. Toggle to Y and press enter (cash)
9. After entering that item press Clear to get back to the PLU screen and start over for the next item or clear to go back to program.
Thats it. Just follow the screens as you go!
Thanks
how do i program tax 3 on SAM4s ER-5215M.PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS.
Ahhhh. Well follow the same instructions as above except you press Tax Shift 3. But that is easier said then done as the machine comes standard with only Tax 1 Shift 1 and 2. So to place Tax Shift 3 on the keyboard you will first have to do this.
1. Locate a key you can change to Tax Shift 3 (something un-used)
2. Use the C key and turn the key to the S mode which is one position cloclwise from the P mode
3.enter 70
4. Press Subtotal
5. Enter 203
6. Press the key space you are making Tax Shift 3
7. Press Cash
Make sure and turn the key out os S mode. The space you just programmed is now the Tax Shift 3 and you can proceed with programming.
Good Luck and remember this advice is free and without warranty!

Administrator,
I have a SER-7000. Our resturant has had a flat 9.25% rate on everything and now the rate is increasing to 9.75. I followed more or less the process you mentioned above and used Tax rate number #1 with ADD ON. I set the rate to 9.75, the minimum to .01 and the max to 9999999.9(plus or minus a digit). When I tested it, it seems to be working. I did not go through and check what tax rate each item is using. Can I assume they are all using #1.
As I dicovered when setting the tax rate, you can’t just check and see what the setting is set to, it zero’s out every time. That has me scared to check the items’ rates because I don’t what to start messing everything up.
I’m completely new to cash registers in general, but very capable with most electronic/computers, etc.
In most cases when programming a SAM4s Cash Register you will only be using Tax Rate #1 so you are probably safe. Some cities or areas do have two tax rates so if you are wondering check with your local dept of revenue!
Sorry for the delay for the response
